My bedtime battle days involving my kids are over, thankfully. The kids are pretty good about going to bed and know when they’re too tired to function and can’t really be bothered to fight it. I on the other hand, am not the best at sleeping regular hours like a normal person. I’d rather Netflix than sleep these days. Actually I’d rather Netflix than do anything at night, especially when it’s so cold out and I’m already wearing the jammies. Let’s be honest, after the bra comes off, a fire couldn’t get me to leave the house.
After the kids are in bed is really the only time I get to watch television, which is convenient since most of my tv watching is not appropriate for them anyway. So what am I watching these days??? Right now I am HOOKED on the Netflix Original series Marvel’s Jessica Jones. It is SO good. This is the second (Daredevil was the first) of five Netflix/Marvel properties on the way.
Jessica Jones stars Krysten Ritter who is totally badass, as Jessica Jones. The cast is great and includes Mike Colter (The Good Wife), David Tennant (Doctor Who), Rachel Taylor (Grey’s Anatomy) and Carrie-Ann Moss (The Matrix). Originally, I planned to watch it with my 11-year-old but it’s rated TV-MA (for and after the first episode, we both decided we’d watch something else together instead. Daredevil anyone?
I also watched three fantastic documentaries this week that I really enjoyed.
I’m no fashionista but I love clothes and love fashion books and documentaries. Both Dior and I and Iris do not disappoint. Dior and I (2014) is a behind-the-scenes look at the House of Dior and the first couture collection by their new designer Raf Simons. It also features and focuses on the incredible seamstresses of Dior, some of whom have been a part of the fashion house for over 40+ years. It’s a great watch.
Iris is a documentary of the beloved New York fashion icon Iris Apfel, and I absolutely LOVED it. You will fall in love with both Iris and her adorable husband. It’s hard to believe that she’s 93-years-old. She is hilarious and amazingly talented and so in love with her husband that it’s hard not to adore this film. I promise you, you will adore it too.
Banksy Does New York surrounds the famous graffiti artist’s October 2013 project, “Better Out Than In”, in which he created a new piece somewhere in New York every day for the entire month of October. It’s amazing to watch New Yorkers become so addicted to finding the piece he creates each day before it gets painted over or even stolen. It will make you wish you had been there. If you love Banksy or want to know more about him, you should watch the other documentary first Exit Through The Gift Shop – it’s fantastic.
Have you seen any great documentaries, movies or shows on Netflix lately? Feel free to share – I’m always looking for suggestions!
